MAC Vendor Lookup · Effective April 30, 2026
Short version: MAC Vendor Lookup is a fully offline tool. We do not collect, store, transmit, share, or sell any of your data. There is no analytics, no telemetry, no advertising, and no third-party SDKs in the app.
What we collect
Nothing. The app contains no network code. There is no server to send data to. Your device never contacts Choate Labs at any point.
What stays on your device
- MAC addresses you enter. Stored locally so you can review your lookup history.
- Notes, location tags, and favorites. Stored in the app's local database (Apple SwiftData).
- Camera frames. Used in real time for on-device text recognition (Apple Vision framework). Frames are never written to disk and never leave the device.
You can delete any record at any time via the History tab. Uninstalling the app removes everything.
Permissions
The app requests one permission, only when you first tap the camera-scan feature:
- Camera — used to read MAC addresses from device labels via on-device OCR. Frames are processed locally and discarded immediately.
You can revoke this permission at any time in Settings → MAC Lookup → Camera. The rest of the app continues to work without it.
Third-party services
None. The app uses only Apple's built-in frameworks (SwiftUI, SwiftData, Vision, AVFoundation, SQLite). There are no advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, crash-reporting SDKs, or any other third-party libraries linked into the binary.
OUI database
The app bundles a copy of the IEEE Registration Authority's public OUI registry, which lists 24-bit MAC address prefixes assigned to manufacturers. This is factual public-domain data; it does not contain personal information.
Children
This app is rated 4+ and is appropriate for all ages. We do not knowingly collect any data from children, because we do not knowingly collect any data from anyone.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will appear at this URL. The effective date at the top will reflect the change.
